It’s A Wrap! - OC Foodie Fest - Honda Center

After weeks of anticipation growing for the OC Foodie Fest to take shape, the day finally came where it grew into a full fledged adult ready for take off. We arrived just in time before the event officially started, but lines wrapped along the street were already showing signs of its potential success. We picked up our badges and started our day.

With just a few minutes before the herd of anxious patrons hungry for a divine meal entered the holy gates, we quickly sampled and digested what we set out to conquer. We made a couple rounds seeking and devouring all that landed in our paths. Interestingly enough, we ate our desserts first before we dived into the main course.

Morsels Bakery: Raspberry Cheesecake Dessert Shots. Layers of crumbled graham crackers shielding the rich cheesecake filling blanketed with a thin layer of raspberry syrup. A perfectly sized dessert that won’t stretch your wallet or waistline.

Kona Ice Beach Cities: shaved ice. Nostalgic to the childhood era, their shaved ice is reminiscent of the sno cones found along the shoreline boardwalk. The fun part about Kona is remembering what it feels like to be a kid. You get to dispense the syrups yourself by choosing the flavors you want or picking out your favorite colors.

Nana Queen’s Puddin’ & Wings: Original banana pudding. Great proportion of sweet banana pudding, vanilla wafers and fresh slices of bananas. If you love bananas, this is a must eat!

Get Shaved: Hawaiian shaved ice. As we were seeking refuge from the sweltering heat, we found a refreshing treat to keep us cool. Flavor combinations are endless, but we ordered the P.O.G. (passion fruit, orange, guava) and a cup of boysenberry, guava & passion fruit topped with sweet milk (condensed milk) and a sprinkle of li hing mui (dried plum powder).

After satisfying our mega sweet tooth, we rested in what little shade we found. Shade was a scarce resource and the menacing sun was not so merciful. As soon as we gained our appetites back, we moved on to our next mission: find more food!

Lee’s Philly: Original Philly cheese steak. Seasoned steak sandwiched between a gooey and scrumptious layer of cheese held together by a baguette is a healthier version compared to the Fresh Prince’s philly cheese steak (Season 1, Episode 5).

Dumpling Station: kimchi beef dumplings and garlic wasabi fries. The fries were surprisingly tasty. The wasabi mayo drizzled atop the fries wasn’t spicy but its flavor enhanced the fries.

As the event progressed through lunch to early dinner, lines began to form crowds of hungry spectators. Although we didn’t get to sample as many trucks as we had wanted, our friends ate their fill as well.

The OC Foodie Fest in our eyes was a successful event and we look forward to an annual event! We hope to see more shade provided for the outdoor festival and possibly provide more activities for participants to enjoy on their down time so that lines are more manageable on behalf of the food trucks. Overall, we give OC Foodie Fest two thumbs up for a brilliant event in Orange County.
